Three Nigerians have made The Academy Awards, popularly known as Oscars, in the newly released list of 842 members.

The three Nigerians are Tunde Kelani, iconic veteran filmmaker, and storyteller, Chinonye Chukwu, first black woman to win the Sundance Film Festival’s biggest prize for her movie, ‘Clemency, and Adewale Agbaje, British-Nigerian actor who has acted in ‘The Bourne Identity’, ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Game of Thrones.

Fifty per cent of the new members are women and 29 per cent are people of colour.

These women are more than men in 10 of the 17 branches, including the directing, writing and producing branches.
