A storm of reactions by football fans has greeted the purported arrest of the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Ahmad Ahmad.
Naija News had reported earlier that the CAF President was reportedly arrested in Paris hotel by French police.
A report monitored on African weekly newspaper Jeune Afrique by Naija News, claim Ahmad was staying in France, where he was meant to attend a FIFA Congress.
Although details of the CAF president’s reported arrest are still sketchy, there are reports in some quarters that Ahmad’s capture is in connection with a “contract unilaterally broken by CAF with the German equipment manufacturer Puma to engage with the company Technical Steel, based in La Seyne-Sur-Mer.”
Reports claim that the CAF President signed off on a deal, which benefitted the company Technical Steel, with one of the company’s bosses said to have paid a total of €739 000 (R12,3 million) to Ahmad in order to get the deal sanctioned.
It is, however, expected that the case involving CAF’s president will be heard by the services of the central office for the fight against corruption and financial and fiscal offenses (OCLIF).
Moments after the news of the arrest broke, football fans, took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to air their opinions on the purported arrest of the CAF President.
